Federal government

The Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has awarded Hanson
Engineers a contract to design upgrades to Honeycutt Rail Yard. This rail yard is located at Fort Bragg, N.C. The project includes change out of a 100-year-old rail with #115 relay rail and construction of a concrete hardstand and several loading ramps, including a bilevel loading ramp. Honeycutt Rail Yard is used for mobilizing light equipment associated with the XVIII Airborne Corps.

Industrial

Bunn-O-Matic Corp. hired Hanson Engineers to oversee the demolition of an old feed mill including truck loading and receiving areas located adjacent to Bunn-O-Matic's Springfield, Ill., plant and general offices. The mill was demolished to make way for future Bunn-O-Matic expansions. The project involved removing asbestos-containing materials, collecting and disposing of hazardous and special waste, removing building and structure footings to a depth one foot below existing grade, and using recycled concrete as backfill at the site.

Railroad

Hanson-Wilson is completing a project that involves installing crossovers at Ruston Way in Tacoma, Wash. An unstable slope located to the left of the track and public parking lots (shown to the right of the track) has created design challenges for engineers.

Hanson-Wilson has completed preliminary engineering services for the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway Co. at five sites near Vancouver, British Columbia. These projects will accommodate increased Amtrak service while minimizing disruptions to the freight service of BNSF and Canadian railways. UMA Engineering Ltd. is assisting us on these projects.

Hanson-Wilson is providing master planning for an intermodal facility expansion for Alabama's Port of Hunstville.

State government

Hanson Engineers is providing land acquisition services to assist the City of Springfield in securing land for the construction of the new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. We will also prepare plans for the demolition of buildings to accommodate the new library, museum and tourism center.

Additionally, Hanson will provide civil and structural engineering services for the library's design and construction. The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency is the contracting agency; the Illinois Capital Development Board is the client. We are serving as a subconsultant to Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum (HOK) Inc.

We are providing planning and construction services for a 16,800-square-foot meat processing plant at the Vandalia Correctional Center in Illinois. Our clients are the Illinois Capital Development Board and the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Telecommunications

We are providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering design services for a 280,000-square-foot building in Dallas, Texas. The five-story building is being converted into a telecommunications hotel-a building designed to house various communication companies. The client is INFOMART.

Siemens Westinghouse selected Hanson Engineers to serve as program manager for its 220,000-square-foot office building in Orlando, Fla. The $25 million project is scheduled for completion in 2001.

Transportation

The Indiana Department of Transportation retained Hanson Engineers to conduct a survey and provide design services for the realignment of U.S. 231. The $28 million project will involve constructing a four-lane divided limited access highway on a new alignment. The project is set to begin July 1, 2000.
