Coles appointed to PIANC inland navigation commission

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Ron Coles, P.E., was recently appointed as the alternate U.S. representative for the Permanent International Association of Navigation Congress’ (PIANC) Inland Navigation Commission. PIANC is a worldwide non-political and non-profit organization whose mission is to promote inland and maritime navigation for corporations, private individuals and national governments.

As the alternate U.S. representative, Coles will work with the principal U.S. representative, John Clarkson, P.E., of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District. In Mr. Clarkson’s absence, Coles will represent the U.S. in PIANC Inland Navigation Commission matters.

Coles, a vice president at Hanson Professional Services Inc., directs the firm’s ports and harbor services nationwide. He specializes in providing planning and engineering services for ports and economic development projects. Coles has managed nearly 120 waterway projects and is a distinguished speaker in the ports and harbors industry. He also serves on the board of directors for the Inland Rivers, Ports and Terminals Inc.; is an elected officer of the National Waterways Conference Inc.; and was named to the National Academy of Sciences, Transportation and Research Board’s ports and waterways committee.

Coles holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Memphis (1972) and a master’s degree in engineering administration from the University of Tennessee (1982).
