The Illinois Tollway receives Transportation Achievement Award for the South Tri-State Tollway
CHICAGO – The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) recently recognized the Illinois Tollway for the widening and reconstruction of the South Tri-State Tollway in Southern Cook County, Ill. The project entry received first place in ITE’s facilities category.
Hanson Professional Services Inc. prepared the construction documents and provided design support throughout construction for 3.6 miles of the South Tri-State Tollway. This project was one of the first stages of the Congestive Relief Program implemented by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (Tollway). This crucial first step of the Tollway’s $5.3 billion, 10-year initiative was completed on time and within budget. Combining innovation, traditional design methods, and new technology and practices, Hanson and the Tollway succeeded in improving operations, reducing congestion and improving travel times for motorists.
The Transportation Achievement Award recognizes organizations for innovative concepts and concept applications in transportation planning, design or operations. It also recognizes organizations for programs or projects that have a significant effect on transportation, implement a “difficult” transportation program, and promote major advances in the efficiency and economy of transportation.
