Fleming marks 40 years at Hanson

PEORIA, Ill.—Donald N. Fleming, P.E., S.E., recently celebrated 40 years of service at Hanson Professional Services Inc. Fleming, a senior vice president, serves as a senior railroad and bridge specialist in Hanson’s railway market. Additionally, he served as manager of Hanson’s Peoria office from 1973 to 2002.

His experience includes analysis and design of structural systems ranging from buildings and bridges to automated storage and retrieval systems. He has designed more than 145 bridges; inspected and rated more than 600 bridges; and served as principal-in-charge for more than 150 railroad bridge projects.

Throughout his career, he has assisted with numerous noteworthy projects, including the McClugage Bridge in Peoria, Ill., where he oversaw structural design and plan preparation for the 4,745-foot-long bridge. Fleming served as the project manager for the 20-mile, double-tracked Alameda Corridor near Los Angeles, Calif., providing a technical review of the more than 90 structures, trench wall design, and bridge foundations. He also was the principal-in-charge for design of the 1,374-foot-long Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) bridge over the Canadian River in Canadian, Texas, and the 1,500-foot-long bridge over the Pecos River in Fort Sumner, N.M.

Fleming is involved in several engineering organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (1968) from the University of Missouri at Rolla. He is a licensed professional engineer in 17 states.
