McCaskie recognized with Department of the Army’s
Commander’s Award for Public Service

ST. LOUIS — Stephen McCaskie, P.E., a senior geotechnical engineer with Hanson Professional Services Inc., was recently recognized with the Department of the Army’s Commander’s Award for Public Service from Brigadier General Michael J. Walsh. This award is the fourth highest public service honorary award that may be granted to a private citizen, recognizing service or achievements that contribute significantly to the accomplishment of the mission of an Army activity, command or staff agency.

McCaskie was specifically cited for his service as a team member in organizing the 2008 Midwest Levee Conference held in St. Louis on June 2-5. He served as co-chairman of the 2008 Midwest Levee Conference, sponsored by the St. Louis Post of the Society of American Military Engineers and the St. Louis Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The conference featured presentations by numerous flood and risk management experts, and approximately 375 people attended. The conference demonstrated a continued emphasis and focus on the Midwest’s flood protection systems and a commitment to sharing expertise and lessons learned across state boundaries, communicating flood risk, and ensuring the public has reliable flood protection.

“It was an honor to be recognized with a Commander’s Award for Public Service for my involvement in the Midwest Levee Conference. The conference was an important first step in bringing additional awareness and knowledge to those individuals who design, manage, operate and maintain levees throughout the Midwest,” says McCaskie.
