PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Hanson provided the design and preparation of drawings for a new roadway underpass bridge. The bridge carries two tracks over the relocated Greens Ferry Road. Maintenance of rail traffic was the primary concern during construction. A special construction sequence was developed using protective shoring to allow operation on one track while the new bridge carrying the other track was constructed. The bridges consisted of BNSF standard bridge elements with four 34 ft precast concrete box beam spans founded on driven piles and precast caps.
After construction of the bridges and opening the railroad to traffic, the embankment below the bridge was excavated to provide four lanes of traffic for Greens Ferry Road. The base of the pile supported piers was encased in concrete crashwalls to provide protection to the bridge.
